I’m pretty excited about going to Akihabara to pick up some used manga (Im actually learning how to read it) and Ebisu is supposed to be pretty. Oh yeah, I got a haircut. It took about an hour and was around 4,000 yen = $35. Its gonna be a pretty easy week filled with some shopping. It’s my last minute souvenir run, any requests? Ill post some pictures throughout the week. xoxoxo

Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower was pretty amazing and it is even taller than the Eiffel. Our room looks crazy with ephemera!!! This week was really crazy but I think the next three will be a lot smoother with more posts, pictures, and info about Tokyo. Today we go to Harajuku…more pictures tomorrow! love you guys! First Day In. First Night Out.

Our first day was as a group and we went to Odaiba…and it pretty muched sucked. It was giant malls filled with overdressed teens. Its sad when you feel underdressed in the mall. I really shoulda packed more jewlery and some dressy clothes. Mom…ship m my whole closet please. Not really. When we met up with the other group some of us went out with Emily’s (someone on the trip) foreign friend, Yuri, that she met on the plane and some of his friends, Niji and Yujin. They were really nice guys and we (Me, Rachel, Lindsey, Emily, and David) met them at Shibuya AROUND 7:30 (30 MINUTES LATE…our train got switched and we couldn’t decide what to wear). Shibuya has some huge crosswalk, which we walked of course, and we went to a tempura house and then to do karaoke. SO MUCH FUN! Yeah, I actually belted out some songs. We ended up leaving around 11:30. We sang for like an hour. Man I really need some dressy clothes. Anyways, all of us are gonna meet up again. But this weekend our group goes to Kyoto (excited). This was a pretty fun first night. I hope that the res t of the month lives up to it. Oh yeah…all the people here are really genuinely nice. Like, everyone really cares if your lost and cant find the golden dog statue.

Phrases I have used today (to strangers):

Doi Dashimaste (your welcome)

Arigato gozaimasu (thank you very much)

Toirre wa doku desu ka? (where is the bathroom-actually had this one memorized)

Hachiko wa doku desu ka? (Where is Hachiko? (its the golden dog statue)) <– our meeting point

The trains and subways are actually pretty easy 2 figure out and pretty cheap. Someone email or comment please. I miss you guys and just like writing a lot.

PICTURES WILL BE UP TONIGHT!

Pictures are up.

Here. In Japan. Wow.

It still hasn’t totally hit me that I am in an Asian overseas country. But I got here safe and sound. It is 10:40 at night here. So its 9:40 in the morning where everyone else is. Haven’t slept since Thursday either…kinda tired. Getting here felt like I was on an adventure or safari or something. First was all of my flights, both of which I was bumped to Economy Class Plus without having to pay. I also met some really nice people. The people here actually really are really polite. Either way I’m about to crash. more details later today.

Ok so I got a pretty goodnight’s sleep. The beds are comfy and the toilets are heated. Weird. Anyways, the breakfasts here are small, but really really tasty. Just like croissants and eggs and meat and stuff. We are going to Odaiba today – some Japanese fantasy of America formed into a strip mall. More later…

Getting There

So, according to the professor…we just get there somehow. I am still pretty lost about this, so more to come.”…we’ll be having a first informational meeting for the trip on Monday, March 17 at 6:00 pm, in the Mint Studio in Fine Arts Building C.  There we’ll tell you a bit more about what to expect, and answer your questions.  If you are compiling questions (I know some of you are), feel free to send them electronically to either of us before hand.” – posted by Ed White  Your departure date for Tokyo’s Narita International Airport should be Friday, May 30, which would have you arriving on the afternoon of Saturday, May 31 (because you’re crossing the date line).  We ask that you not arrive earlier than May 31; Doug and I will be traveling the day before, and will meet you at Narita if you arrive on the afternoon of May 31.  (Remember, too, that our classes resume in Tokyo on Monday, June 2.)  Your departure date from Tokyo should be Friday, June 27.  I’ve priced tickets through a few on-line sites, and prices have not gone up in the past few months despite the slight increase in oil prices: the range I’m finding is $1250 to $1600, and the group rate might drop that a bit.

The Shinagawa District

This is where I will be living for the month of June. I seem to be moving quite a lot [heh]. Anyways, this place is REALLY nice. Go to the website if you really wanna be impressed.http://www.bureau.co.jp/en/bureau/shinagawa_special/index.htmlIt is only 9-10 minutes away from the Shinagawa station, so I can’t get too lost. I even have it diagrammed out for me:

 picture-5.pnganother diagram…for an idiot.
